The Ruscha ceramic bull adorned with the Vulcano glaze is a notable example of mid-20th-century West German pottery. Ruscha Keramik, established in the early 20th century, became renowned for its innovative and artistic ceramic designs. In 1951, Otto Gerharz, a key figure at Ruscha, developed the distinctive Vulcano glaze. This glaze is characterized by its vibrant, fiery orange hues interspersed with darker green or black streaks, evoking the appearance of molten lava. The textured, flowing patterns contribute to its dynamic and organic aesthetic.
